Our Story

Hello my name is Abigail and my journey with horses began when I was only three years old, my sisters had caught the horse crazy bug and although I didn't understand at the time I wouldn't have been too far behind, although if you had asked younger me at the time she would have told you that horses were much too big and scary for her. All that changed when at nine years old my family volunteered at a summer camp where there just so happened to be a pony named Festus, with one ride the spark in me had been ignited. By September of that year I had gotten my very first horse, Angel, although if you asked my sister she would tell you that that horse was no Angel. But she was for me, as an old, foundered, stiff-legged, Arabian cross she taught me many a lesson.

A few short years later Duchess came into my life, a sweet albeit slightly crazy paint mare, from her I learned patience and resilience. Then along came Bobby, a scared quarter horse mare, who had previously been abused and was terrified of men. Bobby was untrained but incredibly willing to learn and yearning for a trusting bond but just didn't know how, so together we learned and taught each other what trust really was. Later in an accident I lost Bobby, and so Whinny came into my life and later her son, Rebel. Rebel did not have an easy start to his life, at four months old a fence snapped and he got tangled in the wire slicing open his shoulder and degloving his back leg. We were told by the vet that he most likely would not survive the injury and even if he did the most he would be able to do would be a companion horse, but much like his name suggests he rebelled against the odds.

Due to the severity of Rebel's injuries, we looked into many different therapy and rehabilitation options, one such option for rehabilitation was massage therapy, although at the time this was not an accessible option. Being a still young teenager at the time I had wanted to strive towards becoming someone who could help more horses like Rebel, Bobby, and Angel. This many years later led me to Olds College of Agriculture and Technology, for their Equine Massage Therapy certificate. And with that began the journey of ABC Equine Massage, I strive to assist horses to have the best quality of life as well as reach their fullest potential, I believe that every horse deserves the best chance that they can to thrive.
